Our family house “Drumalban” is situated above the village of Ardfern some 40 minutes south of Oban and 20 minutes north of Lochgilphead. From Glasgow (and its international airport) the 100 mile drive up Loch Lomondside, over the Rest and along Loch Fyne takes 2¼ hours; 2¾ hours if you stop halfway at the renowned Loch Fyne Oyster Bar to have a coffee and stock up on salmon, mussels and scallops!

The location combines the benefits of privacy and a rugged, unspoilt outlook with an easy 10-minute downhill walk (5-minute drive!) to the village of Ardfern. See the Useful Links page for things to do in and around Ardfern.

The focus of the village is the 200-year-old drovers’ pub - The Galley of Lorne - with its open fires and easy atmosphere.  There is a good restaurant and bar meals are also served. On sunny days, one can drink outside while the kids play on the grass. Opposite the hotel is The Crafty Kitchen (open Mar – Sept, 10:00 - 17:00 except Mondays) for meals, coffee, cakes and crafts. There is also a well stocked, licensed, Village Store (7 days/7:30 am – 8 pm) in which the post office (open mornings) is located, and where you can get cash via Switch. There is also thriving Marina and Chandlers with boat cruises to the Corrievreckan.

On Sundays, the service at the village kirk (Church of Scotland) is at 10:15 am. The organic market also runs on a Sunday from 10:00 - 12:00 with excellent local lamb/beef and fruit and vegetables in season. There is a shellfish exporter between the hotel and the shop, where one can generally buy live crabs, langoustine and lobster and save them from export to Spain!
